taste of freedom is a cookbook for Syria that has now raised over £2,200 for the Red Cross Syria Crisis Appeal
When I launched this book in March 2012 it was the first anniversary of the Syrian uprising and 8,000 had been killed. Those numbers are now beyond the imagination. Over 100,000 have been killed and two million have fled their country.
Taste of freedom is taken from the family recipe book that my Syrian mother wrote for my sister and me, and is full of her favourite recipes from home, as well as photography that I hope captures the true spirit of this special country. Mum passed away in 2006, unaware of the tragic violence that would sweep over Syria a few years later.
All donations I receive for this book, available only as a PDF download, will go towards supporting those people most affected by the violent uprising still ongoing throughout the country. It will be paid to the British Red Cross to go towards their Syria Crisis Appeal. The Red Cross is working actively to provide support to those in need in Syria as well as refugees in neighbouring countries, meeting their basic needs of food, shelter and medical aid. The situation is dire and every contribution counts.
The Red Cross has been working in Syria since the conflict began, delivering aid where others can’t. They’re providing food parcels, healthcare, water and sanitation for millions of people.
